The Institute of Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) is a national-level institute for the research of law. It is located to the northwest of the Forbidden City, to the east of Jinshan Park, and to the north of the formal site of Peking University. The main building of the Institute was constructed in 1935 as the Geology Department of the former Peking University.

The Institute of International Law of the CASS is a research institute directly under the CASS and specialized in the research of international law. The predecessor of the Institute was the Department of International Law under the Institute of Law of the CASS. In 1959, one year after the establishment of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, an International Law Research Group was set up under the Institute of Law.
