The First Symposium on the Public WeChat Accounts on Cyber and Information Law Held in Beijing

On the morning of May 24, 2018, the First Symposium on Public WeChat Accounts on Cyber and Information Law, jointly organized by the Secretariat of the Research Committee on Cyber and Information Law of China Law Society and the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cyber and Information Law, was held in Beijing.The symposium, aimed atcoping with the new problems in the dissemination of information in the data era, expanding the influence of the research on cyber and information law, and reaching consensuses and forming a synergy in the field of cyber and information law, was attended by over 20 experts and scholars from various internet enterprises, universities, research institutions, media, law firms and operators of publicWeChat accounts.

At the opening ceremony, presided over by Professor Zhou Hui, Vice Secretary General of Cyberspace and Information Law Research Committee of China Law Society and Executive Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cyber and Information Law, Professor Zhou Hanhua, Executive Vice Chairman of Cyberspace and Information Law Research Committee of China Law Society, Director of CASS Center for Cultural Law Studies, and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cyber and Information Law, gave a speech in which he pointed out that the Secretariat of the Research Committee on Cyber and Information Law is currently faced with many challenges in its work and needs to change its organizational form, so as to cope with the changes of situation in the field of dissemination of information. At the introductory session of the symposium, Mr. Liu Jinrui, Vice Secretary General of the Research Committee on Cyber and Information Law, gave a detailed introduction to the general situation of the operation of publicWeChat accounts on cyber and information law at the current stage, and proposed that an alliance of publicWeChat accounts on cyber and information law be established to promote cooperation by such means as white list authorization, joint release of important information, and periodical extraction and compilation of information.Mr. Liu Ming, a commissioner in charge of publicity at the Secretariat, gave an introduction to the overall operation of the official public WeChat account of the Research Committee on Cyber and Information Law.

In the session on the exchange of experiences, the participants gave presentations around such topics as the location of public WeChat accounts, selection of content, composition of personnel, and editing techniques of public WeChat accounts. At the closing ceremony, Professor Zhou Hanhua summarized the results of the symposium, expressed his support to the proposal of establishing an alliance of public WeChat accounts on cyber and information law, and put forward a three-stage plan for the development of the alliance.
