Recently, a new book edited by Professor Li Lin—The Road of Development of Socialist Rule of Law with Chinese Characteristics—was published by China Legal Publishing House.This book is problem-oriented. Ittries to find a solutions to theoretical and practical problems encountered by China in the development of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics by combining such methods as theoretical examination and explanation, realistic analysis, and textual explanation.Through historical textual research and comparative study,it revealsfrom the multiple perspectives of theoretical logic, social reality and legal texts the legitimacy, the reasonableness, the historical inevitability, and the possibility of sustainable development of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics.
This book adheres to the leadership of the CPC and socialism with Chinese characteristics, attaches importance to the connection between and integration of academic discourse and political discourse, highlights the subjectivity of thestate and culture in China, gives prominence to China’s independent discourse in theory, institution, and path, adheres to reform and openness, and does not evade historical and current problems, thus strengthening the historical, theoretical and realistic significance of the research results.
The book is centered around the following three fundamental questions:first, what is the road of development of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics? second, why must China take the road of development of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics? and third, how to open up and improve the road of development of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics?
The book consists a total of twelve chapters, which can be divided into four parts. The first part, consisting Chapter One: “the Rule of Law as a Basic Strategy of State Governance in China”, summarizes and analyzes the main connotation, basic characteristics, formal requirements and implementation principles of the road of development of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics; the second part, consisting of chapters two, three, four and five, discusses the questions of why China must take the road of development of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics; the third part, consisting of chapters six, seven, eight, nine and ten, mainly answers the question of what are the characteristics of the road of development of the rule of law in China;and the fourth part, consisting chapters eleven and twelve, mainly explores the strategic arrangements, implementation steps, and value basis of the road of development of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics.As the main result of the key ministerial-level legal research project “Studies in the Road of Development of Socialist Rule of Law with Chinese Characteristics”, it was written by about ten prominent experts from CASS Law Institute, the Law School of Peking University, the Law School of Tsinghua University, the Law School of Renmin University of China, the Law School of China University of Political Science and Law, and China Foreign Affairs Universityand edited by Professor Li Lin, the former director of CASS Law Institute.
