The Ninth Roundtable on Cyber and Information Law: the Seminar on the Copyright Law in the Digital Age,sponsored by the Project Team on “Innovative Development and Institutional Improvement of Intellectual Property Law” of CASS Law Institute, Cyber and Information Law Research Committee of China Law Society, CASS Center for Culture and Legal System Research, and CASS Law Institute and organized by the Editorial Board of Journal of Cyber and Information Law, was held in Beijing on January 30, 2018. The seminar was presided over by Professor Zhou Hanhua, a research fellow of CASS Law Institute, CASS Center for Culture and Legal System Research, Vice Chairman of the Research Committee on Cyber and Information Law of China Law Society and Assistant Director of CASS Law Institute.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Zhou Hanhua gave a speech in which he pointed out that that in the revision of the Copyright Law, many new Internet-provisions have been added to the Law, which have led to many new controversial issues. He hoped that the participants of this roundtable would carry out in-depth exchange of opinions on these issues.
At the seminar, Professor Guan Yuying, Head of Intellectual Property Law Department of CASS Law Institute, gave a keynote speech in which she gave a detailed introduction to the Internet-related provisions in the revision of the Copyright Law and related controversies; Mr. Zhu Bing from the National People’s Congress and Mr. Gao Si from State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television introduced the latest developments in the supervision by the National People’s Congress over copyright law enforcement and in the revision of the Copyright Law; other participants of the seminar gave speeches and carried out discussions on various issues around the revision of the Copyright Law, such as collective management of written and musical works, reasonable use and legal permission in the Internet environment; works produced by artificial intelligence; safeguarding of the rights of broadcasting stations, TV stations and musicians; and sole license.
