The Colloquium on the “Rule of Law Situations in Countries along the ‘Belt and Road’ and Related Investment Risks”, sponsored by CASS Law Institute and CASS Institute of International Law and organized by the Center for the Publicity of and Education on the Rule of Law and Public Law Research of CASS Law Institute, was Held in Beijing on February 28, 2019. The colloquium was presided over by Professor Chen Guoping, Secretary of Joint Party Committee of CASS Law Institute and CASS Institute of International Law, was held in preparation of the investigation project on the “Rule of Law Situations in Countries along the ‘Belt and Road’ and Related Investment Risks”. At the colloquium, Professor Mo Jihong, Director of CASS Institute of International Law, gave an opening speech, in which he introduced the project and the investigation plan. The colloquium was attended by over 30 experts and scholars from various research institutions, government organs and state-owned enterprises, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, Lianhe Credit Investigation Co. Ltd., CPMC Holdings Limited, PowerChina Resources Limited, China Construction First Building (Group) Corporation Limited, Beijing Urban Construction Road & Bridge Group Co., Ltd., China International Contractors Association, Yingke Law Firm, CASS Bureau of Research Administration, CASS Bureau of International Cooperation, CASS Law Institute and CASS Institute of International Law. At the colloquium, the participants carried out in-depth discussions and exchange of opinions around the practical difficulties and legal risks faced by and mechanisms for safeguarding Chinese enterprises carrying out investment and construction in countries along the “Belt and Road”, thus laying a solid foundation for implementing the project and carrying out the investigations.
