The Third Social Sciences Forum: Establishing the Linkage Between International Commercial Courts and International Commercial Arbitration Held in Beijing

On May 14, 2018, the Third Social Sciences Forum: Establishing the Linkage Between International Commercial Courts and International Commercial Arbitration was held in Beijing. The forum was jointly organized by CASS Law Institute,Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration, and the International Commercial Law Institute of University of International Business and Economics and attended by experts and scholars from the Supreme People’s Court, the CASS, Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration,China Association of Arbitration Law, University of International Business and Economics, Xian Jiaotong University, Shenzhen University, China Foreign Affairs University, Chinese Academy of International Arbitration, Benchmark Chamber International, and City University of Hong Kong.

Professor Liu Jingdong, Head of the International Economic Law Department of CASS Institute of International Law and a specially invited consultant of the Supreme People’s Court, presided over the ceremony. In the opening speech, Professor Liu introduced the background and aims of the roundtable.

Mr. Zhang Yongjian, President of Civil Adjudication Tribunal No.4 of the Supreme People’s Court, Professor Shen Sibao, Director of the International Commercial Law Institute of University of International Business and Economics, and Mr. Liu Xiaochun, President of Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration, each gave a speech at the ceremony, in which they pointed out that the strengthening the construction of international commercial courts is one of the strategic measures taken by China to meet the demand for the establishment of the “Belt and Road” dispute resolution mechanisms and bodies and the litigation-arbitration-mediation three-in-one pluralistic dispute resolution mechanism and that it is important to discuss the construction of international commercial courts and the establishment of the linkage between these courts and arbitration in a roundtable. The roundtable was divided into two units in which the participants gave speeches and carried out discussions on a wide range of issues around the theme of the theme of the roundtable.

Apart from Professor Liu Jingdong, five otherresearchers from CASS Institute of International Law attended the roundtable, they are: Professor Li Qingming, Deputy Head of the Department of International Private Law, Professor Huang Jing, Deputy Head of the International Economic Law Department, Professor He Jingjing, Professor Sun Nanxiang, and Professor Ren Hongdai from the International Economic Law Department.
