The First Global Law Forum: International Conference on Sharing Economy and Legal Reform Held in Beijing

On May 5-6, 2018, the First Global Law Forum: International Conference on Sharing Economy and Legal Reform, sponsored by the Editorial Board of Global Law Review, CASS Law Institute, was held in Beijing. The conference was attended by over 50economic and legal scholarsfrom various Chinese and foreign universities and research institutions as well as experts from government organs in the fields of finance, market regulations, transformation, human resources and social security organs.

The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Professor Zhou Hanhua, the editor-in-chief of Global Law Review. In the opening speech, Professor Zhou pointed out that that Global Law Review had always followed closely the development of important theoretical and practical issues and the academic exchange between China and foreign countries in the field of law. Sharing economy is profoundly changing economic and social life, and the purpose of creating the Global Law Forum and choosing sharing economy and legal reform as the theme of the first forum is to pool wisdoms, exchange ideas, share experiences, identify problems and seek solutions in this field.

In his speech, Professor Chen Su, Director of CASS Law Institute, pointed out that the current traditional legal mechanism could no longer effectively adapt to a sharing economy, so it is now urgent to review the development, analyze the major problems, and find out objective laws in the field of legal regulation of sharing economy.

At the one-and-a-half day conference, which was divided into four units, the participants gave keynote speeches and carried out discussions on a wide range of issues around the following topics: “sharing economic system, credit system and legal system”; “legal regulation of sharing economy”; “the-rule-of-law practice of sharing economy”; and “service providers in sharing economy”.
