The National Security Law of the People's Republic of China was adopted at the 15th session of the Standing Committee of the Twelfth National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China on July 1, 2015. Article 14 of the Law provides that: “April 15th each year shall be the National Security Education Day.” On April 15, 2018, the third National Security Education Day, CASS Law Institute, CASS Institute of International Law, the Municipal Government of Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province, and China Democracy and Law Press jointly organized a series of activities for the publicity of the National Security Law, including distributingbrochures, readers and other legal materials, offering consultation, and holding award-winning quiz on the knowledge of national security.
At ten o’clock in the morning, the activities were simultaneously carried out in Beijing and Jiangyin. The organizers of the activities distributed brochures and pamphlets to passers-by, andset up over a dozen groups of posters that vividly showed the main content of the National Security Law. The activities have attracted large crowds of citizens. Over 20 research fellows, post-doctoral researchers, Ph.D. candidates and masters students had participated in the activities to provide consultation on legal issues to passers-by and invite them to participate in the prize-wining quiz.According to initial statistics, a total of 300 pieces of materials on the popularization of law have been distributed, over 200 citizens have been given consultation on legal issues and over 150 citizens have participated in the prize-wining quiz.
Moreover, in order to enhance the effect of the publicity and education of the National Security Law, volunteers of the Center for the Publicity and Education on the Rule of Law and Public Law Studies of CASS Law Institute have visited Jingshan Neighborhood where they donated to the Residents Committee a series of brochures that publicize the National Security Law and readers that popularize the knowledge of the Constitution, the National Security Law, theCounterterrorism Law, and the Counterespionage Law and disseminated the knowledge of these laws directly to the residents in the neighborhood.
