A Delegation of CASS Law Institute and CASS Institute of International Law Visits Montreal University

On November 27-December 3, 2017, a Delegation of CASS Law Institute and CASS Institute of International Law, led by Professor Zhou Hanhua, Assistant Director of CASS Law Institute, visited Montreal University in Canada. Other members of the delegation included: Professor Liu Jingdong, Head of International Economic Law Department of CASS Institute of International Law; Professor Xu Hui, Deputy Head of the Procedure Law Department of CASS Law Institute; Professor Xi Yuemin, Head of Economic Law Department of CASS Law Institute and Deputy Dean of the Law Faculty of CASS Graduate School; Professor Li Xia, an associate research follow of Constitutional and Administrative Law Department of CASS Law Institute; and Dr. Zhou Hui, an assistant research fellow of the Constitutional and Administrative Law Department of CASS Law Institute. This was the first formal visit to Canada by a CASS delegation under the cooperation framework of “CASS-University of Montreal Center of China Studies”. The purpose of the visit was to introduce the spirit of the Nineteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China, expand the academic exchange between China and Canada, and increase the overseas influence of CASS-University of Montreal Center of China Studies. On November 27, the delegation attended the seminar on “China’s New Journey towards Ruling the Country in an All-round Way” at CASS-University of Montreal Center of China Studies. Before the seminar, a brief ceremony was held in which Professor Zhou Hanhua donated on behalf of the two CASS institutes to the Center a series of books written by researchers of the two institutes, including the book series Blue Book on the Rule of Law in China. At the seminar, members of delegation gave speeches and carried out discussions on various issues around the theme of the seminar, including “the construction of the legal system of “One Belt and One Road”, “the legal reform in China”, “the reform of the supervision system in China against the background of anti-corruption”, “new developments of judicial reform in China”, “trade cooperation between China and Canada: new opportunities, key fields, and legal protection”, and “the background, significance and main content of the Cyber-security Law of the People's Republic of China”. The seminar gave the delegation an opportunity to introduce the achievements made by China since the Eighteenth Party Congress in the fields of governance by law, judicial reform, international economic co-operation, anti-corruption, and cyber-security as well as the new ideas of and new measures for ruling the country by law adopted by the CPC at its Nineteenth National Congress, thereby promoting the academic cooperation and exchange between China and Canada and enhancing the influence of CASS-University of Montreal Center of China Studies.
