In the morning of November 14, 2017, Mr. Emmanuel Gaillard, a professor at Science Po Paris and a leading authority on international commercial arbitration, visited CASS Institute of International Law and gave a lecture at the conference room of the Institute. Before the lecture, Professor Gaillard held a meeting with some members of the International Economic Law Department of the Institute, including Professor Liu Jingdong, Head of the Department, Professor Zhang Guangwen, Deputy Head of the Department, and Mr. Fu Panfeng, a post-doctoral researcher at the Department. Also attending the meeting were three lawyers from the famous international law firm Shearman & Sterling: Ms. Yas Banifatemi, Mr. Emmanuel Jacomy and Mr. Nils Eliasson. At the meeting, the hosts and guests exchanged opinions on a series of hot issues in the field of international arbitration and on the revision of the Chinese Arbitration Law, and reached an agreement on the cooperation between the Institute and Science Po Paris and the law firm in the field of international arbitration. After the meeting Professor Gaillard gave a lecture entitled “Representations of International Arbitration——The French Way”. The lecture was presided over by Professor Liu Jindong and attended by over 40 experts, scholars, and graduate students from both in and outside the Institute. Dr. Fu Panfeng served as the commentator of the lecture. After the lecture, Professor Gaillard answered questions raised by the audience concerning some issues discussed in the lecture.
