The Eighth Roundtable on Cyber and Information Law: the Seminar on the Second Reading of the (Draft) E-Commerce Law, sponsored by CASS Law Institute and organized by the Editorial Board of Journal of Cyber and Information Law, was held in Beijing on November 16, 2017. The seminar was presided over by Mr. Zhou Hui, an assistant research fellow of CASS Law Institute, and attended by over a dozen experts and scholars from various universities, research institutions, internet companies, and new media in China. At the opening ceremony, Professor Zhou Hanhua, Vice Chairman of the Research Committee on Cyber and Information Law of China Law Society and Assistant Director of CASS Law Institute, gave a speech in which he pointed out that the legislation on e-commerce is worthy of in-depth research and analysis. The seminar on the Second Reading of Draft E-commerce Law would be of great help to further improving the legislation on e-commerce, the regulation of e-commerce platforms, and cyber and information legislation in China. At the seminar, the participants gave presentations and carried out discussions on various issues around such topics as the definition of the concept of e-commerce, the scope of application of the E-Commerce Law, the industrial and commercial registration of natural persons, the rule on the deletion notification in the protection of intellectual property, boundary of submission of platform data, the protection of consumer rights, and the establishment of legal responsibilities of e-commerce platforms.
