The First International Seminar on Competition Law of CASS Institute of International Law in 2017 Successfully Held in Beijing

On October 25, 2017, the first International Seminar on Competition Law of CASS Institute of International Law in 2017, organized by the Center for Competition Law Studies of CASS Institute of International Law, was successfully held in Beijing. The seminar was presided over by Professor Wang Xiaoye, Director of the Center, and attended by representatives from CASS, China University of Social Sciences, CASS Graduate School, Chinese Academy of Governance, Price Waterhouse Coopers Law Firm and Fieldfisher Law Firm. At the seminar, a lecture was given by a specially invited guest, Professor Yong Lim from the Law School of Seoul National University, South Korea. In the lecture, entitled “Challenges Faced by the Competition Law in the Digital Age”, Professor Lim mainly discussed the following four issues: the resurgence of conglomerates in the digital age; robot cartels; the application of the FRAND principle; and the reform of the anti-monopoly law enforcement system in South Korea. After the lecture, the participants carried out in-depth discussions around the above four topics, especially on such issues as the balance between the protection of privacy and the enforcement of competition law, the commonalities and differences between artificial intelligence and programming, the relationship between entry competition and competition for consumer attention, and the concurrence between the enforcement of anti-monopoly law and the enforcement of anti-unfair competition law, and put forward opinions and suggestions from their own perspectives.
