The Sixth Roundtable on Cyber and Information Law: the Legislation on the Protection of Personal Information Held in Beijing

On the afternoon of September 15, 2017, the Sixth Roundtable on Cyber and Information Law: the Legislation on the Protection of Personal Information, jointly sponsored by the Cyber and Information Law Research Committee of China Law Society and CASS Law Institute and organized by the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cyber and Information Law, was successfully held in the conference room of CASS Law Institute. The Roundtable was presided over by Professor Zhou Hui, Secretary General of the Roundtable. Professor Zhou Hanhua, Vice Chairman of the Cyber and Information Law Research Committee and Assistant Director of CASS Law Institute, gave a speech at the beginning of the roundtable. Next, representatives China Consumer’s Association, Southern Metropolis Daily, International Association of Privacy Professionals, Tencent Research Institute, CASS Law Institute, Alibaba Group, China Law Society, Didi Chuxing Technology Co, Geo Group, and Sina each gave a keynote speech on issues to be taken into consideration in the legislation on the protection of personal information from their own perspectives. In the next session of the roundtable, the keynote speakers made supplementary speeches and carried out exchange of opinions with other participants on the issues discussed in their keynote speeches. At the end of the round table, Professor Zhou Hanhua gave a concluding speech, in which he confirmed the important value of the roundtable and invited the participants to carry out further dialogue on various issues relating to the legislation on the protection of personal information in the near future.

The Roundtable on Cyber and Information Law is a cross-disciplinary, small and pragmatic meeting mechanism initiated by CASS Law Institute and the Cyber and Information Law Research Committee of China Law Society and participated by relevant government agencies, enterprises, research institutions and mass media in the field of the cyberspace and information. In order to better respond to the new problems in the Internet Era, the roundtable will organize from time to time seminars on major issues in the development of the rule of law in the field of Internet and information law, so as to provide to the state legislative and administrative authorities with suggestions and proposals for their reference in their decision-making in the relevant fields.
