On September 5, 2017, the Fourth Lecture of the Innovation Forum of CASS Law Institute and CASS Institute of International Law in 2017 was successfully held in the conference room of the two institutes. The lecture, entitled “normative techniques and values of law codes in ancient China”, was presided over by Professor Gao Hancheng and given by Professor Zhang Sheng. Professor Zhao Xiaoyuan served as the commentator at the lecture. In the lecture, Professor Zhang, by taking the 500-article Dang Code as example, explained the historical tradition and legislative techniques of the codification of laws in ancient China and, through article-by-article analysis of a Part of the Tang Code (Weijin), introduced various legislative techniques used by the Tang Code, including omission, quotation, extraction of common factors, combination of like terms, mathematical logic, and compression. After the lecture, Professor Zhang carried out energetic discussions with the participants of the lecture on various issues relating to the theme of the lecture.
