Professor Liu Huawen Elected a Member of the Executive Council of the Asian Society of International Law

The Sixth Biennial Conference of the Asian Society of International Law was held in Seoul, South Korea on August 25-26, 2017. At the Plenary Session of the Conference, an election of the new Executive Council of the Society was held. Professor Liu Huawen, a research fellow of the CASS Institute of International Law, was elected a member of the new Executive Council, along with two other Chinese experts, Mr. Ma Xinmin, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, and Professor Zhu Wenqi, a professor at the Law School of Renmin University of China. The newly elected Executive Council consists of 30 members. Mr. Ma Xinmin was reelected Vice Chairman of the Society. According to its Constitution, the Society is an international non-partisan, on-profit and non-governmental organization with the following objectives: (a) To promote research, education and practice of international law by serving as a centre of activities among international law scholars and practitioners in Asia and elsewhere, in a spirit of partnership with other relevant international, regional and national societies and organizations; (b) To foster and encourage Asian perspectives of international law; and (c) To promote awareness of and respect for international law in Asia. The Executive Council is the decision-making body of the Society. Its composition should ensure the wide and equitable geographical representation at the Council, but no more than three of whom may be nationals of the same country.
