The Fourth Lecture in the “Oriental Legal Forum” Lecture Series Successfully Held at CASS Law Institute

On the afternoon of July 4, 2017, the fourth lecture in the “Oriental Legal Forum” Lecture Series, jointly organized by the Department of Jurisprudence and Department of Legal History of CASS Law Institute, was successfully held in the conference room of CASS Law Institute. The lecture, entitled “Establishment of the Common Family Property to Offer Sacrifices: Modernization of Traditional Legal System”, was given by Mr. Chen Rongchuan, a lifetime professor of Taipei University and Secretary General of the Lawyers’ Association of Taiwan. It was presided over by Professor Zhang Sheng, a research fellow of the CASS Law Institute, and attended by over twenty researchers and students from the CASS Law Institute and CASS Institute of International Law. Dr. Wang Shuiyi, an editor at the Chinese Journal of Law, served as the commentator at the lecture. In the lecture, Professor Chen gave a detailed introduction to the historical sources of the system of establishment of the common family property to offer sacrifices and the legal issues relating to this system in Taiwan Province in contemporary time and explored the question of how to link up this traditional patriarchal clan system with modern legal system.
