Professor Deng Zibin Attends the Salon on the Rule of Criminal Law in Peking University

On June 23, 2017, the “Salon on the Rule of Criminal Law in China: Legitimate Self-Defense from the Point of View of Yu Huan Case” was successfully held at the Law School of Peking University. The event was organized by Gran Ken Criminal Defense Institute of Peking University and attended by prominent criminal law scholars, experts and lawyers from various universities, research institutions and law firms in Beijing. At the salon, the participants carried out in-depth discussions on various issues relating to the determination of legitimate self-defense in the current Chinese judicial practice in light of the outcome of the Yu Huan Case, including the misunderstandings about legitimate self-defense, public and private reliefs, the understanding of the relationship between Paragraph 2 and Paragraph 3 of Article20 of the Chinese Criminal Law, the relevant criminal policies, and the determination of the exact time point of unlawful infringement in self-defense cases. Professor Deng Zibin, a research fellow at CASS Law Institute, attended the salon and expressed his view on the thinking mode of public security organs and legitimate self-defense against violation of personal freedom.
