The Lecture “Court Reform from the Perspective of Comparative Law: New Trend of Development of Administration of Overseas Courts” Held at CASS Law Institute

On April 15, 2017, Mr. Jeffery A. Apperson, Vice President of NCSC International, visited CASS Law Institute and gave a lecture entitled “Court Reform from the Perspective of Comparative Law: New Trend of Development of Administration of Overseas Courts” at the conference room of the Institute. The lecture was presided over by Professor Liu Renwen, Head of the Criminal Law Department of CASS Law Institute, and attended by over 30 persons, including graduate students of CASS Graduate School, experts from the Supreme People’s Court and legal practitioners in Beijing. In the lecture, Mr. Apperson explained the characteristics, rules and motive forces of the evolution and reform of the judicial system in the US from the perspectives of judicial independence, separation of three powers, check and balance of public powers, protection of human rights and separation of federal and state powers and discussed in detail such issues as distributive justice, effective management of public resources, capacity building by courts, utilization of the great potentials of science and technology, increasing the convenience of administration of justice, improvement of the relationship between courts and other public authorities, and enhancement of public understanding of and trust in the courts. After the lecture, Mr. Apperson exchanged opinions with the participants of the lecture.
