Professor Alexander Proelß of the University of Trier Visits CASS Law and CASS Institute of International Law

On afternoon March 4, 2017, Professor Alexander Proelß, a leading European maritime law scholar at the University of Trier, visited CASS Law and CASS Institute of International Law with company of two officials from Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES)—Mr. Christoph Pohlmann, the FES Resident Representative for China, and Mr. Christoph Karg, a Project Manager of FES Beijing Office. During visit, Professor Proelß held a meeting with some scholars from the two CASS Institutes, including Professor Xie Zengyi, Head of the Department of Research Coordination and Foreign Cooperation of CASS Law Institute, Professor Li Honglei, Head of Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law of CASS Law Institute, and Professor Wang Hanling, Director of National Center for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, CASS. In the meeting, Professor Xie Zengyi extended welcome to the German guests, and gave them a brief introduction of the main functions of the two CASS institutes. Professor Proelß expressed his appreciation of the two CASS institutes for the role they played in China as national-level legal research institutes and national think tank and gave the Chinese guests a brief introduction to situation of legal research and education in German and in the University of Trier. He analyzed the challenges faced and countermeasures taken by EU and Germany in dealing with the refugee issues and carried out exchange of opinions with Chinese guests on various issues relating to the law of the sea, the EU law, and new development of the rule of law in China.
