Professor Liu Huawen Interviewed by CCTV on the Development of the Rights of Persons with Disability in China

On December 3, 2016, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the CCTV English channels “China 24” and “News Hour” broadcasted a program on the development of the rights of persons with disability in China. In the program, Professor Liu Huawen, Assistant Director of CASS Institute of International Law and Executive Director of CASS Center for Human Rights Studies, gave an introduction to the legal and policy measures taken by China to promote the safeguarding of the rights of persons with disability. He especially mentioned that China has announced the goal of enabling all poverty-stricken population, including those among disabled persons, in the country to shake off poverty by the year 2020. To achieve this goal, the State Council issued documents aimed at helping disabled persons to shake off poverty, increasing government investment, carrying out targeted poverty alleviation, enhancing the employment ability and level of disabled persons and improving the quality of their life, and strengthening the safeguarding of the rights of children with disabilities.

中国政府还重视联合国《残疾人权利公约》和2030年可持续发展议程的实施,特别是在世界上率先制定了落实2030年议程的国别方案。柳华文指出,残疾人权利保护不仅是政府的工作,也与全社会密切相关,需要所有人的努力,包括对传统、习俗、日常作法等进行反思,努力消除偏见和歧视,共同打造平等、共享和包容的社会。
