Professor Hu Shuijun Attends the Seminar on the Traditional Rule of Law in Chinese History

The Seminar on the Traditional Rule of Law in Chinese History, jointly sponsored by International Confucian Association and China University of Political Science and Law, was held in Beijing on June 16, 2018. The seminar was attended by prominent legal experts and scholars from International Confucian Association, China University of Political Science and Law, Renmin University of China, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Beijing University of Foreign Studies, CASS, Southwest University of Political Science and Law, Shandong University, Shanxi University, and Hangzhou Normal University.

The seminar was divided into three units, in which the participants gave speeches and carried out discussion on various issues relating to such topics as “the development of the traditional ideas, institutions and system of the rule of law in Chinese history”, “the relationship between the rule of law and the rule of virtue in Chinese history”, “the differences between the Chinese traditional rule of law and western rule of law”, and “what can be learnt by China from its traditional rule of law in its contemporary practice of “ruling the country by law” and “ruling the country by virtue?”

Professor Hu Shuijun, a research fellow and the Head of the Department of Jurisprudence of CASS Law Institute, attended the seminar and gave a speech entitled “the Confucian Rule of Law: Theoretical Possibility and Contemporary Development” at the second unit of the seminar.
