Results of Assessment of the Openness of Chinese Government in 2018 Released in Beijing

On May 10, 2018, the Seminar on the Theory of Openness of Government Affairs and the release of the results of assessment of the openness of Chinese government in 2018 were held in Beijing. The event was sponsored by CASS Law Institute and attended by over 200 experts and scholars from various universities, research institutions and government organs in China. It was divided into the following four parts: opening ceremony, the release of the assessment results, the seminar and the closing ceremony.

The opening ceremony and the release of the report were presided over by Professor Li Zhong, Head of the Department of Studies on the Rule of Law Strategy of CASS Law Institute. Mr. Wei Changbao, Editor-in-Chief of China Social Sciences Press, and Professor Tian He, Director of the CASS Center for the Survey and Study of National Indices of the Rule of Law, each gave a speech at the opening ceremony. At the release of the assessment results, Professor Lu Yanbin, Director of the Department of Survey of National Situation of the Rule of Law, gave a keynote speech entitled Openness of Government Affairs in China: the Results of Assessment in 2017 and Prospect of Development in 2018. The seminar was divided into five sessions, in which the participants gave speeches and carried out discussions around the following topics: the experience of openness of government affair by government organs at their own initiative; the practice of openness of government in key fields; the current situation and existing problems in the disclosure of government information upon application; and the practice of explanation of government information and response to public inquires.
