Professor Mo Jihong Gives a Lecture on Xi Jinping’s Thought on the Socialist Rule of Law with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era at the National Autonomous University of Mexico

On December 8, 2017, Professor Mo Jihong, Deputy Director of CASS Law Institute, visited National Autonomous University of Mexico at the invitation of the Law School of the University and gave a lecture on “Xi Jinping’s Thought on the Socialist Rule of Law with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era” to over 100 doctoral candidates and professors from the university. In the lecture, Professor Mo first gave the audience some basic information about the Nineteenth Congress of the Communist Party of China and a detailed introduction to the background, main content and great significance of “Xi Jinping’s Thought on the Socialist Rule of Law with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era”, put forward by Party Secretary General Xi Jinping in his report to the Nineteenth Party Congress, the “eight main contents and fourteen basic strategies” put forward in the report, and the theoretical sources as well as policy and practical bases of the Thought. He analyzed the theoretical origins of the basic strategy of “ruling the country by law and constructing a socialist state under the rule of law”, put forward at the Fifteenth Party Congress, and the Decision on Comprehensively Advancing the Strategy of Ruling the Country by Law, adopted at the Fourth Plenary Session of the Eighteenth Central Committee and it theoretical contribution and policy support to the formation of Xi Jinping’s Thought on the Socialist Rule of Law with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Next, he explained the “new bright spots” in Xi Jinping’s report to the Nineteenth Party Congress, which carries forward and further develops the theory of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics. Finally, he made a distinction between Xi Jinping’s Thought on the Socialist Rule of Law with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and western liberalist legal theories and stressed the importance of Xi Jinping’s Thought to the comprehensive advancement of the strategy of ruling the country by law and the modernization of state governance theory and capacity in China. At the end of the lecture, Professor Mo answered the questions raised by the audience.
