A Delegation of CASS Law Institute Visits Montreal University in Canada

On October 6, 2017, a delegation of CASS Law Institute, headed by Professor Li Lin, Director of the Institute, visited Montreal University in Canada, and attended the launching ceremony of the CASS-Montreal University China Law Research Center. Also attending the ceremony were Professor Guy Lefebvre, Vice President of Montreal University, Professor Jean-Francois Gaudreault-DesBiens, Vice Dean of the Law School of Montreal University, and Mr. Peng Jingtao, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate in Montreal. At the ceremony, Professor Li Lin pointed out that the purpose of establishing the CASS-Montreal University China Law Research Center is to promote the internationalization of the Chinese social sciences and strengthen the comparative study of the Chinese Road and Chinese issues, so as to enable the world to better understand China and China to better integrate itself into the world community. Under the joint efforts of the CASS Law Institute and Montreal University, the Center will become an important base for the academic exchange between Chinese and Canadian scholars of philosophy and social sciences and an important think tank for the cooperation between China and Canada. The scope of activity of the Center will cover all fields of philosophy and social sciences but legal science will be the priority field for exchange and cooperation of the Center. The establishment of the Center marked a new development in the exchange between China and Canada in the field of humanities, a new starting point in the cooperation between CASS and Montreal University, and a new chapter in the exchange and cooperation between Chinese and Canadian scholars in the research on Chinese law. He hoped that, with the joint efforts of the Chinese and Canadian counterparts, the Center would be built into a successful model of cooperation between China and Canada in the field of philosophy and social sciences. After the launching of the Center, a ceremony was held for the donation of books by CASS Law Institute to the Center. And after the book donation, the first Sino-Canadian Seminar on Comparative Law was held. At the seminar, which took “New Developments of Private Law and Public Law: Chinese and Canadian Perspectives”, members of the CASS delegation, including Professor Xiong Qiuhong, Professor Xie Zengyi, Professor Lv Yanbin, Professor Zhu Guangxin and Professor Zhou Lin, each gave a keynote on judicial system, labor law, disclosure of government information, the formulation of the General Provisions of the Civil Law, and innovation and intellectual property in China, respectively, and carried out in-depth exchange with Canadian scholars on the related academic issues.
