On March 14-17, 2017, the Training Course of CASS Law Institute and CASS Institute of International Law on the Spirit of the Important Speech Given by Party Secretary-General Xi Jinping at the Colloquium on Philosophical and Social Science Work was successfully held in Beijing. The training course was attended by over 100 staff members of the two institutes. On the afternoon of March 14, Professor Zhang Xianwen, Vice-Chairman of China Law Society, gave a lecture entitled “Studying the Spirit of “May 17” Speech and Constructing a System of Law Science with Chinese Characteristics” at the training course. On March 15, a plenary meeting was held. At, the meeting, which was presided over by Professor Chen Zexian, Director of CASS Institute of International Law, Professor Chen Su, Secretary of the joint Party committee of the two institutes, gave a mobilization speech in which he conveyed the spirit the National Conference on Political and Legal Work, discussed the importance of the “May 17 Speech”, and the ways of strengthening the “four consciousnesses” among legal scholars. Professor Zhou Hanhua shared his own understanding of Xi Jinping’s speech given at the Conference on Network Safety and Informatization Work. At the plenary meeting on the Morning of March 16, Director Li Lin gave a lecture entitled “Taking the ‘May 17 Speech’ as the guidance, and Striving to Construct a System of Law Science with Chinese Characteristics” and Deputy Director Mo Linxia gave a speech entitled “Studying Party Codes of Conduct and Regulations, and Conscientiously Upholding the Party Discipline. On the afternoon of March 16, group discussions were held among the staff members of the two institutes, in which the participants shared their experiences of studying and implementing the spirit of Party Secretary-General Xi’s important speech, and put forward opinions and suggestions on how to reform the system of management of research in the field of philosophy and social sciences, promoting the construction of new-type think tanks, and improving the quality of social science research. At the plenary meeting on March 17, Director Li Lin conveyed the spirit of the CASS Conference on the Construction of Marxism and made concrete arrangement for the construction of Marxism and the strengthening of Ideological front in the two institutes; Deputy Director Mo Jihong gave a lecture on how to strengthen the Marxist law science; and finally Director Chen Zexian gave a summarization of the three-day training course.
