Professor Xiong Qiuhong Attends Sino-German High-end Forum on Criminal Procedure Law

On December 16-17, 2016, a delegation of Chinese Society of Criminal Procedure Law visited German and attended the Sino-German High-End Forum on Criminal Procedure Law at the Law School of Würzburg University in German at the invitation of Professor Bernd Schünemann of the Law School of Munich University and Prof. Eric Hilgendorf of the Law School of Würzburg University. Members of the Chinese delegation included Professor Chen Guangzhong, Honorary Chairman of Chinese Society of Criminal Litigation Law, Professor Bian Jianlin, Chairman of the Society, Professor Chen Weidong, Executive Vice Chairman of Society, Professor Zuo Weimin from Sichuan University, Professor Sun Changyong from Southwest University of Political Science and Law, Professor Xiong Qiuhong from CASS Law Institute, Professor Hu Ming from Zhejiang University, Professor Yi Yanyou from Tsinghua University, Professor Xu Meijun from Fudan University and Dr. Huag He from China University of Political Science and Law. Apart from Professor Schünemann and Professor Hilgendorf, the German participants of the forum included Prof. Karsten Altenhain from University of Düsseldorf, Prof. Wolfgang Frisch from University of Freiburg, Prof. Luís Greco and Prof. Arnd Koch from University of Augsburg, Prof. Ralf Kölbel from Munich University, Prof. Hans-Heiner Kühne from University of Trier, Prof. Friedrich-Christian Schroeder from University of Regensburg, Professor Thomas Weigend from University of Cologne, and Prof. Frank Peter Schuster from Würzburg University. During the two-day forum, the Chinese and German scholars each gave a 30-minute speech and then carried out extensive and in-depth discussions on various issues around such topics as “different modes of criminal procedure”, “safeguarding human rights in criminal procedure”, “the principle of fair trial”, and “the reform of the criminal justice system”. During the forum, the Chinese and German scholars also discussed the academic exchange and cooperation between the two countries in the field of criminal procedure law.
