On the afternoon of November 15, 2016, an expert meeting was held at the Second Circuit Court of the Supreme People’s Court to discuss a difficult retrial case. The meeting was presided over by Grand Justice Hu Yunteng, President of the Second Circuit Court, and attended by Grand Justice Yu Zhenghua, the Vice President of the Court, and six prominent criminal law experts from several universities and research institutions, including Professor Zhao Bingzhi from Beijing Normal University, Professor Chen Xingliang from Peking University, Professor Chen Weidong from Renmin University of China, Professor Wang Minyuan and Professor Liu Renwen from CASS Law Institute, and Professor Yi Yanyou from Tsinghua University. At the meeting, the judges of the Court briefed the experts on the circumstances of the case carried out in-depth discussions with the experts on the relevant criminal law and criminal procedure law issues. At the end of the meeting, Grand Justice Hu Yunteng thanked the experts for their opinions. He indicated that the Court would further study the relevant legal issues on the basis of expert opinions, try its best to deal with the retrial case in an impartial way and in accordance with law, and strive to make it a guiding case.
