Professor Liang Huixing Gives Lecture on the Draft General Principles of the Chinese Civil Code in Shenzhen

On the Morning of October 8, 2016, Professor Liang Huixing, a senior research fellow of CASS Law Institute, gave a lecture on the Draft General Principles of the Chinese Civil Code in Shenzhen. The lecture was organized by the Arbitration Committee and the Lawyers’ Association of Shenzhen City and held at Shenzhen Citizens Center. On June 2016, the Draft General Principles of the Chinese Civil Code was submitted to the Standing Committee of the Twelfth NPC at its 21 meeting for its deliberation. Professor is the main drafter of the Expert Proposal on the Draft Chinese Civil Code, which represents the results of highest-level academic research on civil law in China, provides important academic resources and intellectual reserve for the adoption of the Chinese Civil Code, and embodies the spirit of professionalism of the Chinese civil law scholar and their passion for and the long-term efforts in the codification of the civil law in China. The General Principles of the Chinese Civil Code, which provides for the basic principles and systems of civil, is the foundation of not only the Civil Code, but also the rule of law in China. In his lecture, Professor Liang gave a systematic introduction to the background and progress of the codification of the civil law, explained the enrichments, supplementations, inheritance and innovations made by the Exposure Draft on the basis of the General Principles of Civil Law, and pointed out the existing problems in this Draft Law. His authoritative explanations enabled the audience to have a basic understanding of the content, framework and structure of the Draft General Principles of the Chinese Civil Code.
