Professor Chang Jiwen Awarded the Title “Green-China Man of the Year”

On July 8, 2016, Professor Chang Jiwen, a research fellow at CASS Law Institute, was awarded the title “Green-China Man of the Year”, the highest award given by the Chinese government in the field of environmental protection. Among the 10 persons awarded this title for the year 2014-2015, Professor Chang is the only one who has won the award on account of his academic innovation.

Professor Chang is the first post-doctoral researcher in China in the field of protection of the environment and natural resources. He is currently the Deputy Director of Research Institute of Resources and Environment Policies of State Council Development Research Center, the Vice Chairman of the Environmental Law Committee, Green Finance Committee, and Environmental Damage Assessment Committee under the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, an expert consultant at the Production Safety Committee of the State Council, a theorist at State Administration of Work Safety, an expert member of the Environmental Impact Assessment Committee, and an environmental expert consultant at the Supreme People’s Court. He has participated in the drafting or revision of over 30 laws related to environmental protection, including the Environmental Protection Law, the Law on the Prevention and Control of Air Pollution, the Law on the Prevention and Control of Water Pollution, and the Law on the Protection of Wild Animals, published over 290 articles and over 20 books, and won near 20 provincial- and ministerial-level awards in the field of environmental protection. Between 2014 and 2016, Professor Chang has played an important role in the research on the eco-system institutional reform and explained the achievements made by China in eco-system institutional reform in such mainstream news media as the CCTV and People’s Daily.
