On June 30, 2016, the First Sino-French Seminar on Gender Equality, jointly organized by All-China Women’s Federation and the French Ministry of Family, Children and Women’s Rights, was held in Paris, France. The seminar took “gender equality and law” as its theme and was divided into three parts: “legislation on and the mainstreaming of gender equality”, “women’s rights and interests and opposing violence against women”, and “gender equality in professional life”. It was attended by scholars, government officials, and representatives of NGOs from China and France. Professor Xue Ninglan, Deputy Head of the Social Law Department of CASS Law Institute, gave a keynote speech at the seminar. At the second meeting of High-level Sino-Franco Dialogue over Exchange in the Field of Humanities (Dialogue franco-chinois sur les échanges humains) held in 2015, the exchange in the field of woman’s issues was incorporated into the dialogue mechanism and the Chinese and French governments decided to carry out diversified exchange activities in the field of the protection of women’s rights and interests. This seminar was an active practice to implement the spirit of the meeting. At the seminar, the Chinese and French representatives both expressed the wish to take the seminar as the new starting point to continuously strengthen the exchange and cooperation between the two countries in the field of women’s issues and to jointly promote genuine equality between men and women.
