China-ASEAN High-Level Seminar on Promoting the Rule of Law and Sustainable Development

On May 13, 2016, China-ASEAN High-Level Seminar on Promoting the Rule of Law and Sustainable Development, jointly sponsored by China Law Society and Thailand Institute of Justice and organized by CASS Law Institute, Southwest University of Political Science and Law, and China-ASEAN Legal Research Center, was held in Beijing. The seminar was attended by over 200 representatives, including those from the Royal Family of the Kingdom of Thailand, Thailand Institute of Justice, embassies of Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore and other ASEAN countries in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry, Chinese Ministry of Justice, Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs, and Beijing Law Society, as well as scholars and graduate students from CASS Law Institute and Southwest University of Political Science and Law. The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Zhang Mingqi, Vice Chairman of China Law Society. Speakers at the ceremony include Mr. Chen Jiping, Vice Chairman of the Commission on Society and Legal System of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol of the Kingdom of Thailand, and Professor Li Lin, Director of CASS Law Institute. At the seminar, the participants gave keynote speeches, carried out in-depth discussions and reached extensive consensus on such issues as the relationship between regional cooperation and sustainable development, the concrete areas of cooperation between China and Thailand in the field of the rule of law, and practical approaches to the realization of the rule of law in both countries. At the end of the seminar, a ceremony was held in which Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol was engaged as an honorary advisor to China-ASEAN Legal Research Center and an honorary professor of Southwest University of Political Science and Law, and a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between China-ASEAN Legal Research Center and Thailand Institute of Justice.
