On November 14-15, 2015, the Seminar on Judicial Reform and Independence of Trial, jointly organized by CASS Law Institute and Wang Jian Law School of Suzhou University, was successfully held in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. Experts and scholars, judicial personnel as well as lawyers from various universities, research institutions, judicial organs and law firms throughout the country, including the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the Political and Law Commission of the CPC Party Committee of Suzhou City, judicial organs at various levels of Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province, and Beijing Shangquan Law Firm, attended the seminar and carried out in-depth discussions and exchange of opinions on various issues relating to topic of “judicial reform and independence of trial”, including “core elements of independence of trial, such as lawfulness, independence, and adjudicative power and procuratorial power”; “independence of trial in the Chinese context”, “why does China needs the independence of trial”, “independence of trial and the fairness of trial”, “independence of trial and judicial responsibility”, “independence of trial and supervision by mass media”, and “independence of trial and institutional guarantees”.
