The 2015 Beijing Forum on Human Rights, jointly organized by China Society for Human Rights Studies and China Foundation for Human Rights Development, was held in Beijing on September 16-17, 2015. The seminar took "peace and development: victory of World Anti-Fascist War and human rights advancement" as its main theme and was attended by more than 100 officials and human rights experts from more than 30 countries and regions. Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulation letter to the Forum. A number of scholars from CASS Law Institute and CASS Institute of International Law, including Professor Liu Huawen, Assistant Director of CASS Institute of International Law and Deputy Director and Sectary-General of CASS Center for Human Rights Studies, attended the opening ceremony and other sessions of the forum.

After the Forum, Professor Liu Huawen published an article entitled “The Chinese Voice on the Development of Human Rights Cause” in the newspaper Global Times, in which he gave an in-depth interpretation of President Xi Jinping’s congratulation letter to the Forum. He pointed out that a review of Chinese history shows that Chinese people has made huge efforts and achieved great results in the development of human rights cause. During the past several decades, China has already discovered a road to human rights development compatible with its own national conditions. The characteristics of the development of human rights cause in China include: adhering to the strategy of combining the universality of human rights with actual conditions in China, continuously developing the economy, enhancing people’s welfare, promoting social justice, strengthening the protection of human rights, promoting the comprehensive and coordinated development of economic, social, cultural rights and civil and political rights, and markedly improving the level of protection of the right of existence and the right to development of the Chinese people. At the international level, China, while continuing to improve human rights protection in its own country, will carry out good-faith and constructive cooperation in the field of human rights with other countries of the world, and actively promote the development of international protection human rights, especially the protection of the right of existence and the right to development of the people in developing countries.
