The Tenth Sino-Finnish Bilateral Seminar on Comparative Law Held at Helsinki University

A six-member delegation of CASS Law Institute, headed by Professor Chen Su, Director of the Institute, attended the Tenth Sino-Finnish Bilateral Seminar on Comparative Law, held at University of Helsinki on June 10-11, 2019. The seminar was jointly sponsored by the Law School of University of Helsinki and Finnish Center of Chinese Law and Chinese Legal Culture, and attended by about fifth experts and scholars from China and Nordic countries.

 

At the opening ceremony, Professor Pia Letto-Vanamo, Chairperson of the Finnish Center of Chinese Law and Chinese Legal Culture, and Professor Chen Su each gave a speech in which they reviewed the development history of and the achievements made in various fields of law under “Sino-Finnish Project on Comparative Law” since its implementation ten years ago and expressed hope that two institutions would strengthen their cooperation under this project.

 
 

At the opening ceremony, the latest results of the project and a brochure commemorating the tenth anniversary of the implementation of the project were launched. Professor Xie Zengyi, Head of the Department of Research Coordination and International Cooperation of CASS Law Institute, presented Professor Ulla Liukkune, Director of the Finnish Center of Chinese Law and Chinese Legal Culture, the lasted result of the “Sino-Finnish Project on Comparative Law” - the book entitled Legal Reform and the Development of the Rule of Law: a Comparison between China and Finland (co-edited by Professor Chen Su and Professor Liukkune and published by Social Sciences Academic Press in 2019) – as a gift on behalf of CASS Law Institute.

At the seminar, which was divided into five units, the participations gave speeches and carried out discussions on a wide range of issues around the following topics: “law, language and legal culture”, “sustainability and environment”, “sustainability and commerce”, “sustainability and the work force” and “the development of the public law”. At the closing ceremony, Professor Xie Zengyi, Professor Ulla Liukkunen, and Professor Ditlev Tamm from Copenhagen University each gave a speech in which they summarized the speeches and discussions at the seminar and expressed high expectation of the future cooperation under the project.
