Invitation for the 45^th Anniversary of the Institute of Law,

Dear distinguished friends and guests:

This year, with great honor pleasure, we are going to celebrate the 45^th Anniversary of the founding of the Institute of Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. It will be a significant event for both the Institute of Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Chinese legal community as a whole. For the purpose of summarizing the history of the Institute in the past 45 years, building up social networks between and among the scholars associated and cooperated with this Institute, and expressing gratitude to the friends having all along supported us, the Institute will a series of activities for this grand event. As planned, an opening ceremony will be held on October 4 of 2003, and then a series of international symposiums and various activities will be launched. I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to attend the ceremony and other relevant activities.

To communicate and collaborate closely with you, a board of the 45^th Anniversary and its working team has been established. Now, we have been preparing the following celebration activities:

1.      International symposiums:

 A. The Rule of Law and Human Rights in the 21^st Century（October 4 & October 5,2003）;

 B. A study on Codification of Civil Law（October 4 & October 5,2003）;

 C. The Theory and Practice of Mass Media and Information Disclosure Law（October 4 & October 5,2003）;

D. Research on the Development of Law Journals（October 4 & October 5,2003）;

E. Anti-terrorism in International Law (between June 2003 and September 2003);

F. Basic Theory of Evidence Law (between June 2003 and September 2003);

G: The Development and Reform of Competition Law (between June 2003 and September 2003);

H. Theory and Practice of Financial Guarantee Law (between June 2003 and September 2003).

2.      Anniversary Publications: History of the Institute of Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Series of Collections of Outstanding Academic Papers published by the Institute; The Catalogue of the Library of the Institute of Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Frontier of Rule of Law in China: series of papers of the Symposiums held by the Institute of Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

3.      Establishing China Law Science Development Foundation. The fund donated will be divided into Special Funds for expenditure on the celebration of the 45^th Anniversary of the founding of the Institute, and Routine Funds for financially disadvantaged students and scholars, publication of academic works and sponsoring significant academic activities. Other special Funds will also be established at the request of the donors. The titles of the funds will be proposed by the donors, and decided by the Board of the Institute of Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

4.      Sponsoring Exhibition of the History of the Institute of Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Exhibition of Celebration Activities.

5.      Establishment of the Board of the Alumni of the Institute of Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

6.      Establishment of the related Organization Committees on international symposiums and other activities, responsible for contacting the participants of the Anniversary Ceremony.
