The Faculty of Law of the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences is a teaching institution ratified by the State Council and the Ministry of Education to confer doctor degree of law and master degree of law. With the contribution of its staff, including but not limited to the teaching team, from the Institute of Law of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the faculty of law is in the position of training graduate students for legal research and practice. Since its establishment in 1978, the faculty has trained a large number of students, who are now working mainly in government offices, research institutes and universities, as well as law firms, thereby contributing greatly to the social progress and the construction of the legal system in China.
The faculty has a strong teaching staff of 57 professors, including 32 tutors for doctor degree candidate. Most of the professors have been awarded with the honorable title of 'National-level Expert with Outstanding Contribution', some of them are in charge of important national research societies and institutes in their respective research fields, and some of them hold important positions in the state organizations or in famous international organizations.
The faculty accepts students as doctor degree candidate or master degree candidate. It is in the position to confer doctor degree of law in 5 research fields, namely jurisprudence, constitutional and administrative law, civil and commercial law, economic law, and international law; besides, the faculty is also in the position to confer master degree of law in 9 research fields, namely jurisprudence, legal history, constitutional and administrative law, criminal law, procedural law, civil and commercial law, economic law, law on the protection of the environment and natural resources, and international law.
Moreover, a postdoctoral research section has been set up under the faculty. The faculty accepts research fellows in fields of jurisprudence, constitutional and administrative law, civil and commercial law, economic law, and international law. Further, in cooperation with the research departments, research centers, and functional sections of the Institute of Law, the faculty accepts visiting scholars from both within the country and abroad.
